Last minute preparations for the 5th Euro Mini Table Tennis Championships were the order of proceedings on Thursday 27th August 2009 in Schiltigheim.
Also it was last minute homework for the ITTF World Hopes Team as they prepared for the ensuing competition.
A very impressive 40 national associations will be represented at the four day tournament staged in the Gymnase Malteries and, as the members of the World Hopes Team practised, players from throughout Europe and beyond assembled.
It is a major event and Schiltigheim is clearly well equipped to stage international tournaments that involve a high number of entrants.
The tournament was prominently advertised throughout the city and of course everybody was made welcome.
In the afternoon a reception for team leaders was been held, hosted by the President of the French Table Tennis Federation, Alain Dubois, explained Zita Pidl, the ITTF World Hopes Team Manager. Also, several high ranking personnel from Strasbourg and Schiltigheim were present.
Meanwhile, later in the day, it was down to business.
We had a meeting with Mikael Andersson about future plans and the concept of the World Hopes Team programme, said Zita Pidl. Also, Olga Nemes gave an insight into her life, her career, the problems she faced and her journey from Romania to Germany.
Listening to Olga Nemes is always spell binding; it is a life story from which the members of the ITTF World Hopes Team can learn and the coaches can learn as well, Olga Nemes is a very caring person who has a great desire to help others.
In Schiltigheim, she is doing just that very well indeed.
