Therefore, Universal continues its commitment to bring Olympic related and world class sports programming to the United States.
The multi-year deal was made with Anders Thunstr๖m, Managing Director of TMS International, on behalf of the International Table Tennis Federation (ITTF). Universal Sports previously broadcast the finals of the 2009 World Championships from Yokohoma, Japan, and their relationship with the ITTF dates back to 2007.
“We are very excited to provide coverage of this popular Olympic event in the United States, helping to promote table tennis to our national audience,” said Claude Ruibal, Chairman of Universal Sports. “Many don’t realize the excitement of watching table tennis; it is truly an exciting spectator sport; the speed of the game and the skill of these athletes are simply phenomenal. Both avid fans and the casual sports fan will find the competitions thrilling.”
"The United States deserves a network that carries the World Table Tennis Championships and we are very pleased with the agreement reached with Universal Sports," said Thunstr๖m. “The network has grown tremendously of late, and now more than 61 million Americans can watch this incredible sport.”
